  • Becoming Catholic at St. Martin de Porres

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)

Are you curious about the Catholic Church? Have questions about Jesus, the Bible, or what Catholics believe? Or do you feel God drawing you to something deeper, even if you’re not sure what that looks like?

You’re not alone. And you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

At St. Martin de Porres, we walk with people just like you—whether you’re simply exploring or ready to take your next step toward becoming Catholic.

  • What is OCIA?

OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process the Catholic Church uses to welcome new disciples into the Catholic faith.

Here at St. Martin's, it’s not a class but a journey: a place to ask questions, encounter Jesus, grow in community, and discover God’s plan for your life.
  • Where do i start?

You don’t have to sign up for anything yet. The first step is simply a conversation.

    1. Reach Out

After you submit the contact form below, a member of our team will get in touch to hear your story and answer any questions you have—completely pressure-free.

    2. Come to Inquiry Nights (Optional, Open Door)

These are relaxed, every-other-week gatherings where you can:

    • Ask anything (really—anything)

    • Hear the basics of the Catholic faith

    • Meet others exploring the Church

You can come once, occasionally, or regularly—whatever helps you discern your next step.

    3. Discern Your Path Forward

If you feel ready, we’ll meet with you one-on-one to talk about moving into the next phase of the journey. This includes finding a sponsor to walk with you and preparing for the Rite of Entrance, when the Church formally welcomes you.

  • What Does the Journey Look Like?

Once someone chooses to continue, the journey includes:

    • Weekly connection with the Sunday Mass

    • Small-group sessions focused on prayer, Scripture, and the teachings of the Church

    • Engaging presentations through Catholicism 101, our parish-wide formation series that explores the foundations of the Catholic faith

    • Meaningful parish experiences like service, devotions, and retreats

    • A supportive community of mentors, sponsors, and fellow seekers

Every step is designed to help you encounter Jesus, grow in discipleship, and become part of our parish family.

Where that leads is up to you and the Lord.

  • Who Is OCIA For?

OCIA is for adults who are:

    • Unbaptized and exploring Christianity

    • Baptized in another Christian tradition and seeking full communion with the Catholic Church

    • Baptized Catholic but never received Confirmation or 1st Holy Communion (we’ll guide you to the right path)

If you’re unsure where you fit, that’s normal—we’ll help you discern it quickly.

  • Take Your first step

No matter where you are in your faith or how many questions you have, we would be honored to walk with you.

Fill out the form below, and someone from our team will reach out personally.
