Fr. Bruce Patterson Pastor of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Yorba Linda. Born in 1957, I was raised in La Habra where I received all my sacraments of initiation and my elementary education at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, I am the middle child (yes, one of those) of 5 siblings, all of whom are still living. Graduating from public high school, I enrolled at CSUF hoping to focus on political science, as I had aspirations toward public service. After just one semester I decided to take my talents elsewhere, as I found the political science department at that time ideologically entrenched. Having received a full four year scholarship from Whittier College, I spent the rest of my undergraduate career there, which allowed me to save much needed rent money by staying at home. I fell in love with my Constitutional Law studies, so I began exploring law school opportunities, but something else whispered in my ear, a sense that perhaps I was called to another path. Through a series of providential events that helped crystalize my discernment, I eventually acquiesced to the call to priesthood and entered St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, after which interim Bishop John Steinbock ordained me and my four classmates at Holy Family Cathedral on October 4, 1986, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. I’ve served as parochial vicar at Holy Family, Our Lady of Fatima, St. John the Baptist (before it was turned over to the Norbertines), and one too brief year at St. Joseph in Santa Ana before Bishop Brown assigned me as pastor of St. Bonaventure. From there, I took over at St. Kilian to help them build their new church, then to St. Norbert for only 3 years before Bishop Vann assigned me to the Pastoral Center as his Vicar for Priests, where I still work today. Over the years, I’ve found that my happiest and most fulfilling times were the most challenging, like teaching myself Spanish so I could serve that growing demographic, and volunteering in Detention Ministry, which was both inspiring and painfully frustrating.
Msgr. Stephen Doktorczyk (former pastor of St. Martin de Porres)
Canon Lawyer at the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington, D.C. Stephen Doktorczyk was raised in San Pedro, California, in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He attended Mary Star of the Sea High School, where he played basketball. He began working for Vons Grocery Company while still in high school and continued there during his College years at Cal State Long Beach, where he also earned an MBA in 1998. He relocated to Orange County in 1990 after he was transferred to Vons in Los Alamitos. For several years, he was involved at St. Bonaventure parish in Huntington Beach teaching religious education to eighth graders and serving as a sponsor for two adults who were preparing to be received into the Church. Finally in the year 2000, he left his position as a Human Resources Representative at Vons to begin priestly formation at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, CA, before being sent to the North American College, where he was a seminarian from 2001-2005. After ordination to the priesthood for the Diocese of Orange in California, he continued canon law studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University while residing at the Casa Santa Maria, earning a licentiate in 2007. For the following four years, he was assigned as a parochial vicar at St. Joachim Parish in Costa Mesa while serving as adjutant judicial vicar in the Diocesan Tribunal two days per week. He returned to Rome in the summer of 2011, assuming the role of Official in the Discipline Section of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. He began as an adjunct spiritual director at the North American College that fall. He also undertook doctoral studies in canon law at the Gregorian University, where on 7 October 2015 he successfully defended his dissertation entitled: “Persistent Disobedience to Church Authority: History, Analysis and Application of Canon 1371, 2º.” This work was published in 2016. His bishop having recalled him for service in the Diocese of Orange, Msgr. Doktorczyk returned home to undertake service as Judicial Vicar of the Diocese of Orange in the beginning of 2017 while residing at St. Polycarp Catholic Church in Stanton. Since 1 April 2018, he served as Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia. He was named pastor of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Yorba in July 2022 and is now Canon Lawyer at the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington DC.

Stephanie Marquez, Program Coordinator- Generation of Saints at the Catherine of Siena Institute. Stephanie Marquez is currently the Program Coordinator for the Generation of Saints at the Catherine of Siena Institute. She also supports the Live Called and Gifted Workshops and Called and Gifted Team Training. Ten years ago, Stephanie attended a Called and Gifted workshop at her parish, St. Hedwig in Los Alamitos, CA and little did she know that day would change the course of her life. Already involved in multiple ministries (Catechist, VBS, Pastoral Council to name a few), Called and Gifted opened her up to the knowledge of charisms and from that day forward, life was on a new path. A path that was led by the Holy Spirit to the places where she was Called and Gifted to be. Stephanie was trained to be a Called and Gifted Live workshop Presenter and Gifts Discernment Interviewer and has led multiple parishes through Called and Gifted. Previous to her now full-time position at CSI, Stephanie was the Charism Coordinator for the Diocese of Orange. In her downtime, Stephanie likes to travel with her husband Chris of 26 years and their daughter Charlotte. She also looks forward to spending time with her oldest daughter Rebecca and her family, which consists of two adorable grandchildren.
